An analyst might also consider the industry averages for general or online retail of 20.64% and 27.05%, respectively. An analyst could look at other key competitors such as Cabela’s or Bass Pro Shops to get even more relevant comparisons.Ĭlear Lake Sporting Goods is also technically a retail store, albeit a specialized one. However, recreational products can include a wide variety of businesses beyond just the outdoor gear in which Clear Lake Sporting Goods specializes. If we compare Clear Lake’s ROE of 26.4% to the recreational products industry average of 12.56% for the same year, it would appear as though Clear Lake Sporting Goods is outperforming the general industry. It’s important to look at the ratio in context of the organization, its history, and the industry. Like all ratios, assessing performance is relative. A good sales margin and a proper asset turnover are both needed for a successful operation. ROE captures the nuances of all three elements. This video about the DuPont method walks through its history, discusses its basic components, and shows how to calculate and interpret each measurement. The portion of the sales dollar not returned as profit goes toward expenses. ![]() The larger the ratio figure (the closer it gets to 1), the more of each sales dollar is returned as profit. This ratio shows how much of each $1 of sales is returned as profit. Profit margin represents how much of sales revenue has translated into income. Let’s consider three profitability measurements and ratios: profit margin, return on total assets, and return on equity. To assist with profit goal attainment, company revenues need to outweigh expenses. The company needs to use its assets and operations efficiently to increase profit. Profitability considers how well a company produces returns given its operational performance. ![]() Analyze organizational performance using DuPont method calculations.Evaluate firm performance by calculating return on total assets and return on equity.Calculate profit margin to determine how much sales revenues the firm has translated into income.By the end of this section, you will be able to:

2/18/2024 0 Comments Thomson j hudsonSix of Thomson's research assistants and junior colleagues ( Charles Glover Barkla, Niels Bohr, Max Born, William Henry Bragg, Owen Willans Richardson and Charles Thomson Rees Wilson ) won Nobel Prizes in physics, and two ( Francis William Aston and Ernest Rutherford ) won Nobel prizes in chemistry. Rutherford succeeded him as Cavendish Professor of Physics. He died on 30 August 1940 his ashes rest in Westminster Abbey, near the graves of Sir Isaac Newton and his former student Ernest Rutherford. In 1918, he became Master of Trinity College, Cambridge, where he remained until his death. In 1914, he gave the Romanes Lecture in Oxford on "The atomic theory". He was awarded a Nobel Prize in 1906, "in recognition of the great merits of his theoretical and experimental investigations on the conduction of electricity by gases." He was knighted in 1908 and appointed to the Order of Merit in 1912. Thomson was known for his work as a mathematician, where he was recognised as an exceptional talent. The appointment caused considerable surprise, given that candidates such as Osborne Reynolds or Richard Glazebrook were older and more experienced in laboratory work. On 22 December 1884, Thomson was appointed Cavendish Professor of Physics at the University of Cambridge. They had two children: George Paget Thomson, who was also awarded a Nobel Prize for his work on the wave properties of the electron, and Joan Paget Thomson (later Charnock), who became an author, writing children's books, non-fiction and biographies. Rose attended demonstrations and lectures, among them Thomson's, leading to their relationship. Beginning in 1882, women could attend demonstrations and lectures at the University of Cambridge. Rose, who was the daughter of Sir George Edward Paget, a physician and then Regius Professor of Physic at Cambridge, was interested in physics. In 1890, Thomson married Rose Elisabeth Paget at the church of St. He received his Master of Arts degree (with Adams Prize) in 1883. He applied for and became a Fellow of Trinity College in 1881. In 1880, he obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics ( Second Wrangler in the Tripos and 2nd Smith's Prize). He moved on to Trinity College, Cambridge, in 1876. His parents planned to enrol him as an apprentice engineer to Sharp, Stewart & Co, a locomotive manufacturer, but these plans were cut short when his father died in 1873. ![]() ![]() Thomson began experimenting with contact electrification and soon published his first scientific paper. In 1870, he was admitted to Owens College in Manchester (now University of Manchester) at the unusually young age of 14 and came under the influence of Balfour Stewart, Professor of Physics, who initiated Thomson into physical research. His early education was in small private schools where he demonstrated outstanding talent and interest in science. Thomson was a reserved yet devout Anglican. He had a brother, Frederick Vernon Thomson, who was two years younger than he was. His father, Joseph James Thomson, ran an antiquarian bookshop founded by Thomson's great-grandfather. His mother, Emma Swindells, came from a local textile family. ![]() Joseph John Thomson was born on 18 December 1856 in Cheetham Hill, Manchester, Lancashire, England. Only Arnold Sommerfeld's record of mentorship offers a comparable list of high-achieving students. Thomson was also a teacher, and seven of his students went on to win Nobel Prizes: Ernest Rutherford (Chemistry 1908), Lawrence Bragg (Physics 1915), Charles Barkla (Physics 1917), Francis Aston (Chemistry 1922), Charles Thomson Rees Wilson (Physics 1927), Owen Richardson (Physics 1928) and Edward Victor Appleton (Physics 1947). Thomson was awarded the 1906 Nobel Prize in Physics for his work on the conduction of electricity in gases. His experiments to determine the nature of positively charged particles, with Francis William Aston, were the first use of mass spectrometry and led to the development of the mass spectrograph. Thomson is also credited with finding the first evidence for isotopes of a stable (non-radioactive) element in 1913, as part of his exploration into the composition of canal rays (positive ions). In 1897, Thomson showed that cathode rays were composed of previously unknown negatively charged particles (now called electrons), which he calculated must have bodies much smaller than atoms and a very large charge-to-mass ratio. Sir Joseph John Thomson OM FRS (18 December 1856 – 30 August 1940) was a British physicist and Nobel Laureate in Physics, credited with the discovery of the electron, the first subatomic particle to be found. ![]() Still, you know I’ll have my orders in place for these coins. I’m not sure most people even know most of the first ladies through history, let alone want to pay for them in solid gold form. I think the US Mint is getting a little greedy by printing up “companion gold coins” of each first lady. ![]() Nothing gets collector blood pumping than the idea that there is an entire set of variations to collect. Minting four new coins a year ensures a variety of collectible sets, and rewards for people who have the patience to collect through the entire program. Gotta have them all! The most valuable proof set in a long time has been the 1999 Silver Proof Set – the first to offer the state quarters, before people realized how popular this program would be.Learning about the US Presidents will have additional depth because each one represents a length of time in US history. A dollar is still substantial, and it should attract some interest from kids who might tie a pile of dollar coins to some significant savings. When a candy bar at the supermarket is $0.99, even small kids know that pennies may not get you very far. ![]() American coins haven’t really kept up with inflation. The US Mint is starting to think more like a business, and given the incredible success of the 50 State Quarter Program, it was inevitable that someone would do the math on how much the government makes printing money that people like to collect instead of spend.Īlthough the US Mint runs a risk of “collector fatigue” if they play this card too much, I think this program will be a lot of fun for several reasons: This program was put into place by the Predential $1 Coin Act of 2005, which also brought us the first 24K US Bullion Gold coin, the American Buffalo. You can read a really nice writeup of the program here on Wikipedia. The reason the ending is vague is because they will not produce a coin for any living President, so the question is whether or not any currently living (or upcoming) Presidents make it to 2016. Four coins will be produced every year, finishing out the program in 2017 or so. Looks like November 20 is the day that the US Mint will take the wraps off the designs of the first four Presidential dollar coins.įor those of you unfamiliar with the program, the basic idea is that the US Government will be producing special versions of the $1 coin, one for each President of the United States. As a result, I tend to follow bulletins from the US Mint with a little more interest than average. So, if it wasn’t clear from my previous post and eBay Guide on the US State Quarters Program, I like to collect coins. ![]() By absorbing their souls, these people can never return and Eothas is making himself stronger every time. The lore in Pillars of Eternity 2 is dense, but basically, when people die in Eora their souls return through the Adra and they live again. Eothas is tracking pillars of Adra and absorbing the souls of the dead to make himself stronger. Tasked by the goddess of death Berath with finding and defeating the god Eothas, you find yourself in the Deadfire. No matter what you create, you’ll be playing as the Watcher. If you’ve played the first Pillars of Eternity you can import your save to bring your decisions with you. Players create their character, class, race etc and decide what type of hero they’ll be. Pillars of Eternity 2 ReviewĪt its core, Pillars of Eternity 2 is an old-school, pen and paper RPG in digital form. If you like RPGs, it’ll likely happen to you too. Combat, conversations, exploration, writing and the voice acting are all standout achievements for the game. The Deadfire is absolutely enormous and exploring every corner reveals a litany of quests, adventures, treasure hunts and more.Įverything about Pillars of Eternity 2 has been polished to a bright sheen. Pillars of Eternity 2 is an incredible video game and Obsidian has delivered one of the most confident and complete packages ever. When I previewed Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire I called it ” an amazing experience for RPG fans.” After spending more than 100-hours with the final build, I’m confident that I didn’t heap enough praise on it before. It’s easily the best RPG of this generation. Pillars of Eternity 2 on console is a winner and if you love pen and paper RPGs and haven’t played this one on PC, then do yourself a favour and get it on console. My original review of the PC version below says it all. Hopefully, a future update can address this.Īs for the rest of the game. It’s a shame as it really slows down what’s already a fairly glacially paced title. As you transition from scene to scene, it can take quite a while for the game to load. While the controls aren’t perfect, they work well enough so I can’t complain about them. Once you’ve started a game, you can’t switch between play styles though, so you might want to give them both a try and just stick with whichever one you prefer. This means when you start the game you can choose to play in Real-time with pause or turn-based. That even includes all updates and changes made by Obsidian. ![]() Other than the controls, this version only differs from the PC original by being bundled with all released content. I opted for a combination of both in order to interact with objects and make my way through the world as smoothly and easily as possible. You can control your character or party directly, or opt to use point and click controls. Once it clicks though, it all becomes second nature. Using a DualShock 4 to control the game isn’t as smooth or intuitive as using a mouse and it does take a while to get used to. However, being able to play an RPG of this calibre while sitting on my couch is fairly awesome. Without the added benefit of the Switch’s portability, I’m less excited by the console version of Pillars of Eternity 2 but that’s only in comparison to the handheld.īeing able to play these games on the go is incredible and is my preferred way to play. ![]() Unfortunately, as the Switch release of Pillars of Eternity 2 doesn’t have a release date yet, I opted to play on PS4. After playing the original release on PC and Pillars of Eternity on Switch, I was very keen to see how the sequel would translate. Playing Pillars of Eternity 2 again on console was an experience I’ve waited ages for. 2/18/2024 0 Comments Free for mac download Firetask![]() By showing you all tasks that are "In Focus" as well as tasks that are scheduled for or due today in a single view, Firetask provides you with the big picture on what to focus on today. Every time Pac-Man eats all the video wafers in the mze, he earns an extra life and a new maze full of wafers. The goal of the game is to earn a high score by having Pac-Man eat video wafers, power pills, vitamins and ghosts. The player uses a joystick to control Pac-Man, navigating him through a maze of consumable dashes called video wafers, opposed by a quartet of multi-colored ghosts. It has been considered one of the worst video games ever made and one of the worst arcade game ports released on the system. Despite its commercial success, Pac-Man was panned by critics for poor graphics and sound, and for bearing little resemblance to the original game. Materials Needed: Cardstock, scissors, coloured pencils, transparent tape. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to make a tessellation: How to Make a TessellationĬrafting tessellations can be a delightful activity for kids. Irregular Tessellations: Not relying on regular polygons, these tessellations might seem chaotic, but the shapes still interlock perfectly, akin to a jigsaw puzzle. The polygons fit together just as snugly as in regular tessellations. Semi-Regular Tessellations: Here, two or more types of regular polygons come together to tessellate. Regular Tessellations: These involve only one type of regular polygon, like hexagons in a honeycomb or equilateral triangles fitting together. Tessellations can be categorised based on the shapes involved: Having read about the various shapes, you must be wondering about the various types of tessellations. But with some creativity, a combination or alteration of different shapes can lead to new tessellating patterns. Regardless of their placement, there will always be void spaces between them. Circles, for example, can’t tessellate independently. However, it’s worth noting that not every shape can tessellate on its own. Rectangles: Often used in flooring, rectangular tiles, even though they seem like stretched squares, can tessellate effectively. Hexagons: The design of a honeycomb is a testament to the tessellation capabilities of hexagons. When you position six such triangles, they converge at a point seamlessly. Squares: A classic example is a chessboard where squares fit together without any gaps.Įquilateral Triangles: Triangles that have equal sides and angles. Basic shapes that naturally tessellate include: Understanding which shapes can tessellate is crucial. In mathematics, tessellations provide insights into spatial arrangements and geometric patterns. Historically, tessellations have been utilised in various cultures for decorative purposes in architecture, ceramics, and textiles. This seamless fitting of shapes embodies the principle of tessellation. Even though every piece of the puzzle is distinct, when put together, they fit seamlessly, leaving no empty spaces. To visualise this, think about a jigsaw puzzle. It refers to a collection of shapes that interlock and fit together without any gaps or overlaps. Tessellation is an intricate and fascinating concept in both art and mathematics. So, what is tessellation? Let’s dive in and explore, making the complex simple for our little ones! What is tessellation? These patterns, where shapes fit snugly with no overlaps or gaps, are examples of tessellations.
